How to add Related Post widget to Blogger

Today lets learn how we can add Related post widget in Blogger. This is a easy hack to install even though the source code is a bit complicated :). The Related Post widget can be very handy because this can let your readers to know the similar type of post you have in your blog and it can also allow links to your other posts allowing google bots to read your previous or older posts perhaps if a particular post has not be read. A good example of how this hack will show you after implementing, is a example of my blog.

So if you want to install this hack:
  1. Login to your Blogger with your Google ID

  2. Click on Layout of the blog you want to use this hack on

  3. Click on edit HTML tab

  4. Tick on Expand Widget

  5. Now search for this line of Code
    <data:post.body/>

  6. Now right after the above code paste the Related_Widget_Code just after it(To copy the code right click and view source), that is
    <data:post.body/>
    Related_Widget_Code

  7. Now save your template and your done.

That is it and now view your blog on a particular post and you should see the Related post or the similar post of the post category.

this worked great - but is there a way to display the widget on the main page, without having to click on a particular post?

Also (sorry for the multiple questions) is there a way to make one bulleted list of posts (instead of displaying as many lists as there are labels)?

Hi Laura, to answer your first question yes you can add a widget to display your page contents, and i if i have got your question correctly your referring to table of contents and you can see how you can add them see here Table of contents (Version 1) or Table of contents (Version 2).

And for your next question "way to make one bulleted list of posts (instead of displaying as many lists as there are labels)?"

Expand your widget in Edit HTML and simply search for this piece of code:

maxNumberOfLabels = 3;

and change it to 1 and save your template and your done.

Thanks so much for your fast reply. I don't want a table of contents - I just want the related post widget to display below each post on the main page of my blog.

I don't want people to have to click on a particular post in order to see the related posts.

Does that make sense?\

Other than that - I'm LOVING your hack!

Laura, i just tried out for what you were asking for but i dont think you can add a related post widget on your homepage without having to click on them, coz as you are implementing this hack after the post.body or after the footer-line this hack only works after you click on a particular post.

May be in the future i'll work and tweak certain things on the template and make a widget as you want specially for you.

Hi! I downloaded your html code, and placed it in my blog. If I only knew how to create html codes, I won't be copying. But hey, thanks for the tutorial! It made my day, and your name is seen on my blog as well. You've done a great advertising. Thanks so much!
